The Giyo thumb touch pump head is a better bike pump head because we have solved two problems that riders and bike shops face every time they need to pump up a bike tire. The problems we have solved are valve damage, especially for presta valves, and difficulty seating schrader valves when the tire is at low pressure or completely flat. We analyzed the causes of these problems to create an effective solution with the Giyo thumb touch pump head.
Tire valve damage results from excessive force being applied to the valve when positioning or removing the bike pump head. This is most frequently an issue with the lightweight, fragile barrels and valve seats of presta valves, but heavy handling of any valve can cause damage to the valve or to the connection between the valve and the tube, or even the wheel rim.
The evidence of poor pump head design that can cause valve damage is easily observed when looking at how people use their bike pumps. If people need to twist the pump head or rock it from side to side to get it free from the valve then the issue is poor pump head design.
Tire valve damage can be prevented by removing the need to twist or angle the pump head to break the connection to the valve. Standard pump head connections to valves rely on firm rubber friction seals and clamping connections to eliminate leaks. The problem arises when force needs to be applied to break the connection and remove the pump head.
Tire valves are strong and resilient in one direction only, along the axis of the valve stem. They are comparatively weak across the stem and valve barrel. At Giyo we considered this problem and it was clear that we needed to design a pump head that could be easily attached and removed by applying minimal effort in line with the valve stem. This would protect the valve from damage.
At Giyo, when we look at bike pump engineering, we are always looking for ways to improve the user experience. From our leak free shock pump designs to our dual scale gauges for high and low pressures, the underlying philosophy is to find solutions for the problems faced by everyday users of bike pumps. This is the philosophy behind the design of our revolutionary thumb-touch bike pump heads.
A key success factor for Giyo ODM is our capability to integrate improved user experience and customer satisfaction with meeting commercial demands for better, more reliable, cost efficient, market focused solutions to common complaints and issues with bike tire and bike pump technology. The result is a win-win for our OEM brand clients who want better ODM bike pumps that reflect their brand value and respect their customer needs.
Giyo won an award in 2025 for our thumb touch one-handed bike pump head design. The soft-touch lever and simple latching operation ensures leak-free effortless in-line connection to the valve without sideways, angular torque on the valve barrel or stem when attaching or detaching the pump head.
The Giyo single-handed soft connection eliminates the two problems that are a daily problem for all bike riders. One-handed operation frees up the other hand to control the bike and allows the user to support schrader valves so they don’t drop back into the rim when attaching the pump head.
The reduced physical stress of the soft connection of the pump head to the valve and keeping all forces lined up with the valve stem removes the problem of damaging fragile presta valves and stems by twisting them sideways when attempting to remove a conventional pump head.
The improved user experience of the simple clever valve connection to different valve types combines ease of use with the simplicity of the latching system. This results in very low return rates for Giyo thumb touch pump heads and very high user satisfaction, which reflects positively on your brand identity.
